Rural Life
I grew up in the Irish midlands and then moved away for a number of years, before returning again in 2017. This provided me with an insider and outsider perspective on the region, which translates well into the visual language of photography.
I have an outline idea for a future body of work focusing on rural Irelands progressive disconnection with the land and traditional practices. In recent decades the demise of the small farmer and rise of the commuter have led to a significant loss in the quality of this connection.
I have taken a few developmental images exploring my ideas and relevant themes and some of these are shown here alongside other one off images depicting rural life in the region. It includes depictions of rural events, landmarks, architecture and people.
I’d be interested in meeting and collaborating with groups or bodies that are involved in how modern rural Ireland engages with the land.
